Breaking Through the Frustration Stage: How Painting More Can Help You Grow as an Artist
As artists, we’ve all been there – stuck in a cycle of frustration, feeling like our work isn’t improving, and wondering if we’ll ever reach our full potential. But what if I told you that the key to breaking through this stage lies in embracing a simple yet powerful habit: painting more often?

The Power of Frequent Painting
Painting regularly helps you develop your technical skills, observation, and creativity. By putting brush to canvas daily, you’ll:
- Refine your craft and build confidence
- Develop your unique style and voice
- Learn to take risks and experiment with new techniques
- Embracing Failure: A Crucial Step to Growth
Not every painting will be a masterpiece, and that’s okay. In fact, it’s more than okay – it’s necessary. Failure in a painting helps you:
- Identify areas for improvement
- Learn from mistakes and apply those lessons to future work
- Develop problem-solving skills and adaptability
The Beauty of Experimentation
When you experiment, you open yourself up to new possibilities and discoveries. You’ll:
- Stumble upon unexpected techniques and styles
- Develop a growth mindset, embracing challenges and learning from them
- Push your creative boundaries and expand your artistic horizons
The June Challenge: A Painting a Day

This may just be the “kick” I need to get back to painting on a more regular basis. Gin, I have a large painting I want to do for my niece. If I work on that a little each day and a smaller painting every now and then, will that count?
Hi Nona,
YES! I encourage you to work on whatever you want. The prompts are just to help kickstart your desire, but they are strictly optional. I love this idea! ~Gin
I’m working on my Gin’s Den 6”x6” challenge from last year. I got sick with my heart right in the middle of church and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. I kept making my pictures for what I was supposed to paint each week. I am determined to finish. I am week 36. Now I am going to begin week 37. Sorry I got behind. Where do I post my paintings now? I would love to paint with you in June. I really enjoy painting with you.
Pamela, I’m so glad that you want to join us! As for the 6×6, you now have LIFETIME Access, so take your time!

I’ll try my best, right now painting is a little annoying, I know that my knee is getting better, but there’s issues with the healing process: sleepless nights, sciatic nerve pain shooting while sitting and backpain while standing (that’s another operation that needs to be done) so I can do my best because I love painting.
Well, Adele, this might just be what you need to get your mind off of those things:-)). Praying for you, my friend. ~Gin
I’ve been putting off painting for too long. I need this push!
Yay! We all need the push! Let’s do it together.
~Gin
My hardest thing is painting every day so I’m really hoping this pushes me to do it!
Can’t wait to see what you do
Winding down and getting ready for retirement, this is just what I need to bring me back to painting. Thank you Gin! 🎨
